I have a couple of things to pledge to myself for the new year. More than statistics of what I want to accomplish, I want to focus only on a couple of things: both intangible and tangible.
1. Become more diligent. 2. To not be satisfied with the status quo; test my limits 3. Read and reread classics, English and Korean Literature, tackle the list of books that won pulitzer prize 4. Meditate in the mornings, and think of all the things I have to be thankful for. 5. Stretch before I get out bed, before I go to bed. 6. Think more about my health- nutritious food, exercise, stress-relieving fun... 7. Be fearless.
For all that you have done for us: For trusting and loving us unconditionally, For working so hard to provide us with everything we need, そして、二週間に一回家族から手紙が来るとうれしくなって一番時だよ :) You are my pillars, and soon I hope to be for you.
:)This program was designed to send participants into schools of low socio-economic neighborhoods and assist teachers in whatever they needed help with. The kids were phenomenal. Although I worked with a class of 2nd graders as well as a class of 5th graders I became really attached and invested in my 5th grade class. The 5th grade class was my main class. These kids were incredibly bright, curious and a fun bunch and I can never forget how they have impacted me during that brief three weeks of interning there.
When school was in session, my partner and I helped them in math, and reading, working one-on-one when we had to. Other times we would watch them do their science experiments and get caught up in the excitement when they reveled in discovering a particular fact after having analyzed the data.
It was wonderful! I played arm wrestling with the boys where I lost horribly to this one particular boy who was taller and stronger than me...(ridiculous) and I taught girls cheerleading chants and played hand games with them during lunch time. It was a rewarding and a memorable experience. The connections and friendships I made during this time is still continuing as the students have been calling me on my cellphone. =] I would have never imagined for this to have turned out the way it did when I was first accepted but I'm glad it did.

This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.-14th Dalai Lama
